Everything Sad is Coming Untrue is Jason Gray's latest album from Centricity Music. It has a pop focus but absent is the fluff that normally clogs mainstream radio.
It may be hard but it is possible to make music that has radio playability and not pure fluff. Jason Gray has managed that with his latest CD, Everything Sad is Coming Untrue on Centricity Music. Gray has managed to pair deep, poignant lyrics with pop friendly music. It’s a blend that draws the listener in with the hook keeps them for the whole ride. Jason Gray Declares Everything Sad is Coming Untrue Everything Sad is Coming Untrue is more than a record, a collection of songs. It is a journey of renewal and confession. Gray says, “It seems that the thread that ties these new songs together is renewal.” It’s a thread that draws the listener closer to God with the promise that God takes the sadness away. “More Like Falling in Love” is a perfect example of Grays masterful blending of the pop music and deep lyrics. The first track on Everything Sad is Coming Untrue, it has a pop rock/R&B beat and rich, full lyrics. It starts out, “Give me rules/I will break them/Give me lines/I will cross them/I need more than a truth to believe/I need a truth that lives, moves, and breathes.” Gray explains that, “’More Like Falling in Love’ explores the difference between religion and relationship. I think we’re often in danger of reducing Christianity to information.” The next track, “Everything Sad is Coming Untrue (Part 1)”, is pure pop mixed with pure lyrical genius. It explores the fact that our fallen world is even now shows glimpses of the perfection to come. About the song Gray says, “’Everything Sad is Coming Untrue’ was the most difficult song I’ve ever written… It’s about renewal, both the longing for it and the promise of it.” It’s a deep subject and Gray gives it the lyrical attention it deserves. One verse tells us, “It seems so hard to believe/and meaningless to pray/But in Rwanda’s killing fields/Forgiveness blooms and heals/and the power of love reveals/The Kingdom come today as…” “For the First Time Again” is a pop-rock tune without as much production as some of the other songs. It’s a song that could easily be played on the radio, but it doesn’t stick to the surface. It’s about the longing to get back the feeling when one first comes to Christ. It was inspired when Gray watched some kids respond to an altar call. “My faith suddenly felt old and tired and I awoke to a deep longing to be new again, to return to my first love…” Grays says. Many that have been walking with Christ for any amount of time can understand that sentiment. Everything Sad is Coming Untrue is More Than Weighty Lyrics While every song on the CD has lyrics that mine the depth of the soul, the music is more than enjoyable. Everything Sad is Coming Untrue was produced by Jason Ingram and Rusty Varenkamp and they help bring Gray’s music to the masses. With a mix of folk, rock, and some R&B, Everything Sad is Coming Untrue fits into a pop structure that is soothing to the ear. Also soothing to the ear is Gray’s vocals. He shows that he is more than a songwriter. Gray is a talented singer that is up to the task of whatever the song requires. If he is restrained by anything, his vocals don’t show it. Everything Sad is Coming Untrue is Deep Pop Jason Gray’s CD Everything Sad is Coming Untrue is pop music without the fluff. If there’s any justice in the world this will get tons of air time. It’s great music with the benefit of exceptional lyrics. Everything Sad is Coming Untrue is a CD people can be comfortable sharing with friends. They may even be changed by it.
