Third Day Provides a RevelationBand Performs on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno for New AlbumVeteran Christian Rock band Third Day earns more acclaim and a slot on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno to support the release of its 10th studio album Revelation.
Christian music fans are better at maintaining loyalty than their peers in the Pop mainstream yet the continued success of Third Day after more than a dozen years of making music is still noteworthy. On July 29th the band released its 10th studio disc, Revelation, and so far the critical and popular response is among the strongest Third Day has ever received. Of particular note is that on the day of release Third Day performed "Call My Name" on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” a rare slot for a Christian act, particularly one that has not scored a pop crossover hit. But then again, scoring that crossover hit may be on the horizon. Best Third Day Album YetTrue to its name Revelation is an artistic revelation for Third Day members Mac Powell (lead singer/principal songwriter), Tai Anderson (bassist), Mark Lee (guitarist) and David Carr (drummer). It is being cited as the band’s best work to date and that assessment is accurate. Much credit – mostly from the band itself – goes to producer Howard Benson, who has worked with the likes of Daughtry, Flyleaf and P.O.D., for moving Third Day out of its comfort zones toward an expanded perspective. Revelation is fresh and confident but not a radical departure for Third Day. In fact, the classic attributes of Third Day such as strong songwriting and tight playing are intact; they have just been pushed up a notch. In particular, the vocal performances of lead singer Mac Powell reach new heights and are supported by great melodic and instrumental diversity. Key guest performers enhance the final product as well. Stand-out tracks include “Born Again,” which features lovely vocal support from Flyleaf singer Lacey Mosley, “Give Love,” which has an unexpected acoustic country flavor and first single “Call My Name,” which has already hit #1 at Christian radio. Chris Daughtry blends in nicely on “Slow Down” and pedal steel guitarist Robert Randolph enhances “Otherside.” Third Day Continues Its SuccessThird Day is among the top acts in Christian music today and Revelation is sure to secure and even embellish that position. To date, the band has earned 25 #1 radio hits and has sold over six million albums. The list of recognition is lengthy: 23 Dove Awards, 3 Grammy Awards, 2 American Music Award nominations, 6 Gold albums, 1 Platinum album and multiple ASCAP notices. Third Day is also one of the top touring bands in all of popular music having developed a loyal following after many years on the road. After finishing up some summer festival dates, Third Day will team up with Switchfoot, Robert Randolph & the Family Band and Jars of Clay for the “Music Builds” tour which will benefit Habitat for Humanity. Produced in conjunction with Hollywood for Habitat for Humanity and Live Nation the tour will run from August 21st through October 12th.
